United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has launched investigations into the case of Embu where some nomination materials were burned Wednesday afternoon saying whoever found culpable will be disqualified.
In a statement, the National Elections Board of United Democratic Alliance said the party leadership has spoken to Norman Nyaga, Cicily Mbarire and John Muchiri about the incident.
“The party has also immediately dispatched Kipchumba Murkomen, Bernard Koros and George Murugara to Embu to help deal with the situation.” Read the statement.
The party is also monitoring situations in Molo and Njoro constituencies and warns aspirants
of disqualification if they are found culpable of causing violence.
The board has announced that most materials have reached various constituencies and they will be transferred to polling centres overnight ahead of Thursday’s nominations.
UDA sent a strong message to any aspirant who causes chaos, plans to destroy nomination materials that they will be disqualified from the nominations immediately.
The aspirants were encouraged to respect the decisions of Returning Officers.
UDA’s National Elections Board said they have noted fake news being circulated on social media purporting to show that some aspirants have already been given nomination certificates.
“The board categorically states and assures all aspirants that NO CERTIFICATES have been issued at all.” Noted the board.
Adding that: “The first provisional certificates will be issued after counting, tallying and verification of ballots is done by presiding officers and as witnessed by aspirants’ agents on Thursday, 14th April, 2022.”
According to the Board, only aspirants who will be declared candidates will be issued with provisional certificates immediately after tallying has taken place.
Meanwhile, United Democratic Alliance leader Deputy President William Ruto has assured aspirants that UDA nominations set for Thursday will go on as planned.
He reassured party members and aspirants that the exercise will be conducted in a fair, transparent and democratic way.
He urged all aspirants participating in the nominations to accept the outcome of the exercise.
