Former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara has resigned from his position as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) national treasurer.

Announcing his resignation on Monday, 28th February, Magara said the UDA party lacked democracy.

“For a very long time, I have harboured and ambitioned to be the Kisii County governor through the UDA party where I was also the national treasurer. There has since been developments that render my candidature through the UDA party impossible,” said Magara.

Before making his decision to quit the party, Magara said that he had consulted his supporters, friends and family.

“My political future and ambitions cannot be sufficiently addressed by the UDA party. I therefore immediately resign as a party member and as the treasurer. This has been such a heavy decision to make, as we must always allow the voice of the people we seek to lead to prevail over and above personal ambitions,” said Magara.

Magara said that he is ready to engage with other like-minded parties ahead of the August 9th General Elections.

He, however, appealed to the public to remain united regardless of political ideologies.

“Let us be vigilant for politics comes and goes but we as a people and as a nation, must remain united to allow us usher in the golden age of our republic,” Omingo said.
His resignation comes after Kisii gubernatorial aspirant Rachael Otundo ditched the party, citing frustrations.
