President Uhuru Kenyatta has committed to a peaceful transition of power after the August election.

Speaking on Thursday during the 19th National Annual Prayer Breakfast at Safari Park Hotel and the last under his tenure, the President said like his predecessors, he will pass the baton unbroken to ensure the task of building the nation continues uninterrupted.

“The Tempo of our politics is beating at an increasing rate day by day but even as we engage in the upcoming contest, we know the task of building is a nation is passed from generation to generation, and that the generation of leaders are called upon to pass that baton unbroken and I intend to do exactly that” he said.

While wishing those vying the best of luck, the President urged Kenyans and leaders to accept the outcome of the poll.

“There will only be one winner as we have been told, and our prayer is that we shall accept, move forward and live to fight another day” he said.

The President further reiterated his call for peace expressing his desire that the newfound unity of purpose and shared humanity displayed at the meeting would continue.

“Mine is to wish you all of you peace and It’s my earnest prayer that we will end up much united and and stronger after this election than never like never before. I also do hope that the prayers of DP Ruto (retirement) will come true and I’m looking forward to peace and enjoyment in years to come” he noted.

The theme of this year’s ecumenical event, hosted by Kenya’s Bicameral Parliament, is ‘transition’, andwas attended by several visiting dignitaries from Tanzania, Uganda and DR Congo among other foreign nations.

The head of state who is serving his second and final term has been under pressure to fill the position of the Secretary to the Cabinet to oversee transition after the August 9 election.

The officer is the constitutionally mandated chairperson of the critical Assumption of the Office of the President Committee that manages transition after the General Election.

The post has remained vacant since MPs rejected President Kenyatta’s appointment of Monica Juma – now Energy Cabinet Secretary – in 2015.

There was heated debate in Parliament Wednesday when Garissa Town Member of Parliament Aden Duale questioned the delay by the Executive which he said could jeopardize the transition process.
