The Nairobi Expressway, according to Infrastructure Principal Secretary (PS) Paul Maringa, is now complete for commissioning.

According to Maringa, who spoke before the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Thursday, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive will see the Ksh. 88 billion Expressway open this month.

“The Expressway will be launched this month depending on the President’s calendar,” Maringa reported to the committee, chaired by Ugunja MP Opiyo Wanday.

After Wandayi asked the state of infrastructure projects now being performed by the Infrastructure Ministry during President Kenyatta’s final time in office, Maringa made the revelation.

The Nairobi Western Bypass, the Athi River-Mlolongo-Mombasa Road, and the Ksh. 6.5 billion Mombasa-Kwa-Jomvu Road will all be completed before President Kenyatta term ends, according to the PS.

“We are bringing the majority of the key projects to a close,” he said.

The PS’ declaration came barely two weeks after the Ministry of Transport raised toll prices on the Nairobi Expressway by 16 percent to accommodate foreign exchange adjustments for dollar-denominated fees as the Kenyan Shilling fell.
