Uhuru’s Message to Muslim Faithful as Ramadan Begins

President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a message of goodwill to the Muslim community as they begin the Holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement issued on Saturday, 2nd March, the Head of State said Ramadan is an important time that paves way for thoughtful reflection, fasting and devotion.

“This is a month to refocus on Allah, purify the soul , strengthen family ties and take care of the less fortunate. The true Spirit of Ramadan,” Uhuru said.

He called on the Muslim faithful to remember our country in prayers even as we edge closer to General Elections, that peace and unity prevail upon our beloved country.

“May Allah accept your prayers!” the President said.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga who also sent his goodwill message called on the Muslim community to use this time to pray for global healing from personal loss, health, the economy and all ravages brought by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“As humanity hastens efforts to reverse the global economic decline, let us not forget to ask for the Lord’s assistance as we seek to overcome the challenge,” he said.

“The Quran says that it was during Ramadan that its revelation took place; “The month of Ramadan is that in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion,” 2:185.”

Raila further said that this being an election year, Kenyans should continue living in harmony before, during and after the polls.
