A day after residents of Bungoma laid to rest a medic whose life was cut short by COVID-19, the county is back to grief following the death of another resident.
Professor Maurice Kizito Mangoli, a resident of Bumula, lost the fight to the respiratory disease while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital.

Until his demise, Mangoli was a senior lecturer, department of electrical and information engineering at the University of Nairobi.
Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wangamati mourned him as “a known to the world, a seasoned teacher, a well-travelled scholar and an expert engineer” who has his name and handprint on several building projects that have dotted Kenya’s capital Nairobi.
“As a county, we have suffered the brunt of COVID 19 pandemic that continues to ravage the country. As we mourn our gallant kinsmen being felled by this disease, let us stay alert and adhere to the advice given by our medical experts.
We will only flatten the curve when all of us acknowledge the gravity of the situation COVID-19 has forced in our midst. There has to be a radical shift in how we handle and interact with each other even as we pray for a cure,” said Wangamati.
