Preparations are in top gear for the swearing-in ceremony of Wajir Deputy Governor Ahmed Ali Muktar (pictured) any time now, as the Governor of Wajir County.
The ceremony will take place at the Wajir County Headquarters.
Muktar will replace Mohamed Abdi Mohamud who was impeached by Members of the Wajir County Assembly on April 27.
In a gazette notice, Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka notified the public of Mohamud’s removal from office on grounds of gross violation of the Constitution.
The Governor’s impeachment trial was held by an 11-member Committee chaired by Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni.
Mohamud was found guilty of contravening the County Government Act 2012, the Public Procurement and Disposal Act 2015 and the Public Finance Management Act 2012.
The committee, however, absolved the governor from abuse of office and Gross Misconduct charges, saying MCAs did not provide sufficient evidence.
