The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) has accused the international community of double standards in response to crises affecting various races.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the global community does not treat equally international conflicts affecting black and white people.

He said more focus has been given on the war in Ukraine while crises elsewhere, including in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, are not given equal consideration.

The conflict in Tigray, a region in northern Ethiopia, began in November 2020 and has to thousands killed, injured or displaced from their homes. Human rights abuses have been reported in the conflict as well as humanitarian crisis with thousands in need of food and medical aid.
