Why Uhuru Wants OKA Disbanded Right Away

President Uhuru Kenyatta has advised leaders of the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) to drop the nascent coalition.

In a meeting with the OKA co-principals and ODM leader Raila Odinga at State House in Mombasa yesterday, the President reportedly told the group that the coalition fails the test on regional balance.

He asked Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Gideon Moi (Kanu), and Moses Wetangula Ford-Kenya) to initiate the process of dissolving OKA.

The Head of State said he was craving for a broader coalition that captures the face of Kenya.

Besides that, President Kenyatta was emphatic that he wants the former Prime Minister to succeed him next year.

The Kenyan leader affirmed that Raila stood better chances of whitewashing Deputy President William Ruto.

A story published by the Standard indicates that the President shared with the politicians a confidential opinion poll done by the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

The poll divulged that the DP was ahead of all of them individually. However, if they unite the presidency is theirs to lose.

He wondered which miracles OKA chiefs would perform to stem DP Ruto’s growing popularity without Raila.

He warned that a run-off would be risky, as the top seat can go either way.

On Monday and Tuesday this week, OKA principals retreated to Naivasha and made a declaration to front a presidential candidate.

“We hereby unequivocally state that One Kenya Alliance will field a presidential candidate in next year’s General Election and the candidates,” they said in a joint statement.

Unhappy

Some allies of Mudadavi, Kalonzo, Wetangula, and Moi have been accusing their party leaders of agreeing to be fudged by President Kenyatta.

In a recent rant on Facebook, Buture MP Tindi Mwale called out OKA chiefs for being dishonest to their cause.

“OKA should not be seen as being remote-controlled from certain quotas. The cancer in our coalition and opposition in genera is the vulnerability of being coerced to take a certain political direction.

“We resolved Naivasha that OKA presidential candidate shall come from the affiliate parties: why again go to Mombasa to open a window of being sweet-talked to support another person?’ the ANC lawmaker posed.

The MP said he was disappointed that after the OKA retreat ended, the principals boarded choppers to fly to Mombasa to meet the President instead of addressing Nakuru residents.
