– Regardless, he chose to use his football to give back by donating a staggering 10 % of his income

Wilfried Zaha, Crystal Palace winger, has shown how generous he can be after donating 10 percent of his wages at his present club to charity.

The 27-year-old pacy and skilfull forward currently earns KSh 17 million (£130k)-per-week at his Premier League club – with just a portion of it committed to helping the poor.

Zaha was almost joining Arsenal last summer despite having a deal with the Eagles until the summer of 2023.

SunSport reports that the Ivory Coast international has already attracted global recognition for his efforts towards humanity.

“I give a tenth of my salary to charity every month so in terms of giving back, I do my best,” he told the E&H Foundation. “That’s not just charities here, it’s charities in the Ivory Coast too,” said Zaha.

“My mum makes sure of it as soon as the end of the month comes; I do that as my good deed to help.”

Although, Zaha’s sister has an orphanage home in his home country called ‘Tomorrow’s Hope’, with the aim of providing shelter, food, education and a family environment for the less privileged.

The Palace winger has also floated his named the Zaha Foundation – that helps kids play football in both the UK and Ivory Coast.

He added: “My passion for football has given me a platform to do something I love and to help others that, like me, didn’t receive any help or handouts,” he told the Daily Mirror.

“I know what it’s like to come from nothing and not have any handouts, so I hope that what I’m doing is putting a smile on some people’s faces.

“Realising my dreams to be a professional footballer inspires me every day to help others.

“I love football and always give everything on the pitch, but I am aware that one day I will have another life with my charity, family friends and those trusted people around me.”

In Kenya, Harambee Stars captain and Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama has committed to supporting six needy primary school students to secondary school.

Wanyama, through his charity organisation, Victor Wanyama Foundation had initially pledged to sponsor two students, a boy and a girl.
