The relationship between Kakamega county woman representative Elsie Muhanda and nominated senator Naomi Shiyonga has become sour after county governor Wycliffe Oparanya decided to fund the senator’s development activities across the county with indications that she may wrestle the woman representative in the coming elections.
Recently Muhanda prematurely left a harambee function for a catholic church held at Shihome Primary School in Malava constituency presided over by parliamentary chief whip and Mumias East legislator Benjamin Washiali and area MP Malulu Injendi before addressing the gathering after she gathered intelligence that she would be booed by the crowd that seemed to be sympathetic of Shiyonga who hails from the area. She left her contribution with her close ally one Violet Tande.
Shiyonga at the time was not around as she was said to be attending another function in Mumias subcounty. She denied being aware of any plans to heckle the woman representative adding that she is free to move anywhere across the county without fear.
Both leaders belong to ODM party where Oparanya is the deputy party leader and fear is his word will be final on who becomes the flagbearer in any race.
The senator has never in public castigated the woman representative even as Muhanda blames her for the woes afflicting her office where several selfhelp groups have come out guns blazing accusing workers at her office of demanding huge kickbacks from them before issuing loans saying it is propaganda at play.
The two are said not to see eye-to-eye
