Youth allied to Kenya Kwanza urge coalition to pick Waiguru as running mate

Youth leaders allied to Deputy President, Dr William Ruto want Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, to be his running mate.

The youth representatives from 47 counties, drawn from six (6) parties allied to the Kenya Kwanza Coalition, were speaking during a meeting held, Thursday, at Milimani in Nakuru County.

The group described Waiguru as an experienced leader who had a proven track record in her service delivery to Kenyans.

“She is a national figure and held key positions at the National Treasury before. Waiguru has been a Cabinet Secretary, she knows how to run the government,” said Kakamega County Kenya Kwanza Youth Coalition Chairperson, Barbara Juma.

In a speech read on behalf of the group, Juma said the Deputy President’s decision to settle on Waiguru as a possible Deputy President, would set a much-needed precedent in Kenya’s political arena.

She added; “Waiguru is a committed woman, she is known for efficiency and resoluteness. We are going to start that serious conversation in Kenya Kwanza for her to be considered for the number two slot”.

Juma said Waiguru would make for an interesting running mate, who would, most likely, attract the undecided voters to the Kenya Kwanza side.

“The Coalition that will settle on a woman as the running mate will have most women and a majority of Kenyans rallying behind it,” she said.

The group indicated that the Kirinyaga Governor had demonstrated her desire to empower People Living with Disabilities, women and youth by overseeing the implementation of the Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) initiative, which granted 30 per cent of government procurement opportunities to the marginalized groups.

“As the youth of Kenya, we believe that through Governor Waiguru’s transformative leadership, we will be able to gain much in terms of jobs, internships, attachments and entrepreneurial opportunities. Her nomination as a running mate will also be in adherence to gender rule as stipulated in the Constitution,” the youth leader added.

The group indicated that Waiguru did not only enjoy massive support from Mount Kenya but also commanded following across all the age groups in the country.

Juma stated, “She has brilliance, patriotism, steadfastness and soberness. With Waiguru as Deputy President, Kenya stands a better chance of turning around its economy and becoming a more industrialized, productive and innovation hub.”
