Youth leader donates foodstuffs to the street children in Kayole – KBC

Youth leader Chege Wamaratu has challenged politicians to assist the needy in the society especially the youth during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking when he hosted National leaders in donating foodstuffs and other items to street families in Nairobi, Wamaratu said a majority of Kenyans are suffering in silence since the outbreak after some lost their sources of income.

The event dubbed `A Day with a Child’ is hosted annually by the Umoja Foundation in collaboration with Autism Lights Inc, the Nairobi County Government and other stakeholders around the Country.

The youthful leader who has been at the forefront of advocating for the rights of the African child and the marginalized said, “there can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.”

Over 400 street children rehabilitated in kayole received clothes, foodstuff while some even got scholarships to continue with their studies.

Wamaratu who is the CEO of Umoja Foundation Kenya said the initiative will continue in other parts of Nairobi as he seeks to bring more people on board to talk to and encourage the street children.

“As a leader, it caught my attention that there were economic disparities in our Country and I felt it is essential to extend a good gesture to the less fortunate in the society,” He said.

Wamaratu says over 300,000 pairs of shoes, Computers to schools have been donated across the country, a gesture meant to enhance the lives of children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

He is now calling for the creation of permanent systems of change that will continue to serve for generations to come to address inequality and bias among the less privileged.

“I look forward to a future that is bright for every individual in Africa that ensures that basic human needs and rights are easily accessible,” He said.
