Youths under Kazi Mtaani Programme to benefit from enterpreneuship training

NYERI, Kenya, Aug 22 – Thousands of youths under kazi Mtaani programme will benefit from enterpreneuship training by the Ministry of Trade and Industrialization that will enable them start small scale businesses once the initiative ends.

According to Trade CAS Lawrence Karanja the ministry will send officials to county level to educate youths on enterpreneurship across the country starting next week.

Karanja who spoke when he toured nyeri county said that the ministry has set aside Sh600 million as seed capital that will be distributed to youths across the country at an interest of less than 6 percent noting that young people cannot access loans in financial institutions due to lack of collateral.

Kazi Mtaani programme was initiated by president Uhuru Kenyatta to enable youths to make ends after the first covid-19 case was reported in the country.

Under the programme rolled out throughout the country youths do menial work and are paid ksh 450 per day .

Karanja said that this initiative is a directive from President Uhuru Kenyatta that aims at empowering the young people in economic recovery during this pandemic time.

“We as ministry have vowed to help out youths grow we will ensure that what they earn is put to good use through small scale bussiness that will take them far economically” said Karanja.

At the same time, Karanja said the ministry will construct a Jua Kali artisan centre in Mweiga to ensure youths equipped with technical courses benefit during this abnormal time.

Area MP Kanini Kega said that this will empower youths after the Kazi Mtaani initiative is concluded in six months time.

In addition, Kega who is also the chair parliamentary committee on budget called on the ministry to give funds to the youths that will ensure that they sustain themselves in future by starting businesses.

One of the beneficiaries Simon Ndung’u said that this initiative will give the youths a chance to grow economically and be self reliant.
