There was drama on Friday afternoon after 10 Al shabaab terrorist members died after their vehicle hit an explosive they had planted on the road.

According to Somalia National Television (SNTV), the militants had planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the road near Qeycad village in the Mudug region, targeting the military forces that operate in the region.

Drama unfolded when Al shabaab militants felt in their own trap as their pick-up truck hit the explosive before reducing into ashes.

“10# Al shabaab terrorist members have died after their pick-up vehicle hit an IED they planted on the road near Qeycad village in the Mudug region on Friday, local officials and residents reported,” SNTV tweeted.

Similar case happened last month when 15 members of the Al-shabaab terrorist group were killed in Kenya when their vehicle ran over an Improvised explosive device.

Al-Shabaab terrorists have long carried out IED attacks in Kenya targeting security officers patrolling key routes on the porous Kenya-Somali border.

In 2018, more than 100 Kenyan police were killed in separate IED attacks along the border.

The Kenyan army said in January that the country is focused on ensuring the survivability of its troops deployed in the fight against al-Shabaab militants, hence the need to procure 118 high-performance armored personnel carriers (APCs) from Turkey.

The Turkish manufactured vehicles are to protect Kenyan troops from Vehicle-Borne IEDs (VBIEDs), IEDs and directional explosives.
