117 test positive for Covid-19

Covid-19 cases are on the rise with the positivity rate at 4.4pc.

This is after 117 people have tested positive for the disease, from a sample size of 2,632 tested in the last 24 hours.

Of the cases 70 are Kenyans while 47 are 2 foreigners; 68 are males and 49 are females. The youngest is a 2- year-old while the oldest is 82 years old.

The new tally pushes the total confirmed positive cases to 324,976 from 3,670,179 cumulative tests so far conducted.

In terms of County distribution; Nairobi 74, Bungoma 17, Kitui 12, Kilifi 5, Kiambu 4, Garissa 2, Siaya 2 and Turkana 1 case.

Fortunately, no patient has succumbed to the disease therefore the cumulative fatalities remain at 5,651.

“Today, 81 patients have recovered from the disease, all of them from the Home-Based and Isolation Care Program. This pushes the total recoveries to 318,605 of whom 265,574 are from the 3 Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 53,031 are from various health facilities countrywide” said Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe in a statement.

Four patients are hospitalized while 716 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

No patient is receiving critical care in both the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU).

The Ministry of Health continues to roll out the vaccination drive. As of May 30th 2022, a total of 18,204,328 vaccines have been administered across the country.

Of these, 16,460,859 are doses administered to the adult population (18 years and above). Another 1,369,449 are doses administered to those between 15 to 17 years, 34,391 are below 15 years but above 12 years while 339,629 are booster doses.

The total number of vaccines administered in the last 24 hours is 10,677 while the total number of people fully vaccinated in the last 24 hours is 4,792.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 31pc. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
