17 Succumb to Covid-19 as 1,225 More Test Positive

Kenya on Saturday, 14th August, confirmed 1,225 new Covid-19 cases from samples tested in the last 24 hours. This brings the country’s coronavirus caseload to 219,938.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said in a press statement that the cases were detected from the 8,877 samples tested, raising the total to 2,247,959. The country’s positivity rate is at 13.8 per cent.

From the cases 1,199 are Kenyans while 26 are foreigners with 632 being females and 593 males. The youngest is an eleven-month-old infant while the oldest is 97.

Kagwe said 1,318 patients have recovered from the disease, 1,232 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 86 are from various health facilities countrywide. The total number of recoveries now stands at 202,372.

Some 17 patients have succumbed to the disease, taking the national death toll to 4,319.

Currently, there are 1,933 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 9,809 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

At the same time,131 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 55 of whom are on ventilatory support and 69 on supplemental oxygen while seven are under observation.

Another 685 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 643 of them in general wards and 42 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

The cases are spread in counties as follows; Nairobi 324 cases, Kiambu 138, Nakuru 112, Nyeri 111, Machakos 66, Murang’a 42, Kilifi 34, Uasin Gishu 31, Kirinyaga 29, Trans Nzoia 28, Kitui 26, Mombasa 25, Kajiado 23, Marsabit 22, Embu 21, Busia 20, Migori 17, Kericho and Kisii 16 cases each, Garissa and Lamu 15 cases, Laikipia 13, Kwale 10, Isiolo, Nyandarua and Wajir seven cases each, Meru, Kakamega, Taita Taveta and Siaya isx cases each, Nyamira five, Bomet and Kisumu four cases each, Makueni and Baringo three cases each, Bungoma, Vihiga and Homa Bay two cases each while Tharaka Nithi had one case.
