3 More Patients Succumb to Covid-19 as 2,127 Test Positive

The Ministry of Health on Saturday, 1st January, confirmed 2,127 new Covid-19 cases from 6,710 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s caseload to 297,155.

This raised to 3,036,982, the cumulative number of samples tested since March 2020. The country’s positivity rate is at 31.7 per cent

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that from the new cases, 1,794 are Kenyans while 333 are foreigners with 998 being males and 1,129 females. The youngest is an eight-month-old child while the oldest is 103.

Kagwe said that 1,434 patients have recovered from the disease, three from home-based and isolation care while 1,404 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 253,715.

The death toll rose to 5,381 after three more patients succumbed to the virus.

Currently, there are 1,016 patients admitted to various health facilities countrywide while 23,021patients are in home-based isolation and care.

Some 39 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit of whom 19 are on ventilatory support and 20 on supplemental oxygen.

Another 234 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen and 209 of them are in the general wards. 25 patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination: As of 31st December 2021, a total of 10,100,993 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 5,862,875 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 4,206,106.

Another 20,868 are doses administered to those between 15 to 18 years while 11,144 are booster doses. The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 55.8 per cent. Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 15.4 per cent.

The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
