In 2021, Kenyan entertainment spawned original crime dramas and a musical.

Borderline

Set in Nairobi’s Eastlands, Borderline is a crime drama that follows two gangsters as they fight for territory and control while also engaging in a deadly war with the police who know only one way to silence criminals – with a bullet.

At the centre of the story is Lebanon Sempele “Lebo” played by George Mo, a reformed gangster. Lebo is forced to assemble his gang once again, and make a pact with his sworn enemy Tabuu played by Edijoe Mwaniki, when the lives of those he loves are threatened by other gang members fighting for territory and a new trigger-happy police officer in town, Kwach played by Victor Ber.

The character Lebo earned George Mo a nomination for Best Actor in a TV Drama at the 2021 Kalasha Awards.

Uradi

Uradi premiered in September 2020 at the Galleria drive-in cinema in order to adhere to government restrictions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as such, its release was muted. Fortunately, the film made its debut on Netflix a week ago, offering the film the much-needed viewership it deserves.

Crime & Justice

Crime and Justice, the first Kenyan Showmax Original police procedural follows Alfred Munyua and Sarah Hassan as Nairobi Metropol Police lead detectives Silas and Makena.

Crime and Justice won Sarah Hassan the Best Actress in a Drama award at the recently concluded 2021 Kalasha Awards.
