The Ministry of Health on Saturday, 15th January, confirmed 624 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, raising the national tally of infections to 317,324.
The new cases were detected from some 7,045 samples tested, bringing the country’s cumulative tests to 3,143,862. The country’s positivity rate is at 8.9 per cent.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that from the cases, 560 are Kenyans while 64 are foreigners with 330 being males while 294 are females. The youngest is a four-month-old infant while the oldest is 97.
Kagwe said that 1,144 patients have recovered, 929 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme while 215 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 281,343.
Some six patients have succumbed to the disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in January 2022. This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,488.
There are 1,059 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 13,993 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme.
At the same time, 43 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 41 of them on ventilatory support while two are on supplemental oxygen.
Another 220 patients are on supplemental oxygen, 215 of them are in the general wards while five patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
Vaccination: As of 14th January 2022, a total of 11,067,257 vaccines have been administered across the country. Of these, 6,193,498 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 4,756,375.
Another 28,951 are doses administered to those between 15 to 18 years while 88,433 are booster doses. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 17.5 per cent. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
