The Los Angeles Lakers have reached an agreement with Frank Vogel to be their new head coach, according to a person familiar with the negotiations who was not authorized to discuss them publicly.

Jason Kidd, the former Nets guard and coach who spent 19 seasons playing in the N.B.A., will also join the Lakers, as an assistant, according to the person.

The deals come one month after the Lakers parted ways with Luke Walton, two days after talks broke down with Tyronn Lue, their top choice for head coach, and just over 24 hours after fans protested the franchise’s recent instability.

The agreements were first reported by ESPN.

Vogel, 45, did not coach this season, but he had spent two years with the Orlando Magic and six seasons with the Indiana Pacers as head coach. Kidd, 46, coached the Nets for one season immediately after retiring from the N.B.A. in 2013. He then moved on to the Milwaukee Bucks, where he was head coach in four seasons, through January 2018 when he was fired after 45 games that season.
