Grade three pupils to begin national assessment

Over 1.3 million Grade 3 learners will on Monday commence their Kenya Early Years Assessment, the first under the new Competency-Based Curriculum.

The assessment is a continuous exercise that will run until the end of the term and will be used to establish whether learners have exceeded, met or failed to meet expectations of their learning.

As the first Kenya Early Years Assessment kicks off, parents and students across the country are excited about the outcome of the new curriculum.

In Bungoma, Parents of Moi DEB Common Wealth Primary School accompanied their grade three pupils for rehearsal in preparation of grade three assessment.

The parents were elated that the new curriculum is leveraging on the talents of the students rather than fostering unhealthy competition and exuded confidence that the children would do well.

The principal Kelfine Wanyama said the school was well set for the assessment adding that the candidates have been guided by well-trained teachers.

He was hopeful that the curriculum would achieve its intended purpose.

KEYA will see the grade 3 learners assessed on their proficiency in Kiswahili, Kenya Sign Language, environmental activities, nutrition and hygiene, movement and creative activities among others.
