Kwale governor Salim Mvurya has been forced back to the drawing board as opposition increases against his preferred successor Fatuma Achani.
Achani who is also Mvurya’s deputy is being fought from within and outside the governor’s camp. Some of Mvurya’s advisers have warned the county chief in private that it will not be easy to force the DG down the throats of voters who are yearning for freedom to choose their next governor.
But Mvurya has maintained that come rain or sunshine, his preferred successor remains Achani whom he says has the necessary leadership capacity to propel the county forward in terms of development.
To make matters worse, the governor’s own Duruma community members have vowed to reject the DG, saying they have their own plans for 2022.
At the same time, the PS for Crop Development and Research in the ministry of Agriculture, Hamad Boga, is being groomed by ODM to contest for the Kwale governor’s seat. It is claimed that he is the preferred candidate for Mombasa governor Hassan Joho for the seat.
If Boga vies for the seat, he will meet with former Transport minister and Wiper acting chairman Chirau Mwakwere in the race.
Observers say that Mwakwere’s best chances were in the last general elections but he miscalculated by jumping out of ODM
