The governors urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to come up with a protocol of dealing with neighboring countries that will only allow limited access, if at all, in order to curb the spread of the virus into the Country

The governors have dismissed an alleged plot to revert health function to the national government citing that devolved units have successfully managed the sector for the interest of the Kenyans.

The County Chiefs maintain that health sector has achieved milestones since onset of devolution and any attempt to revert it to Afya houses should be met with utmost ‘opposition’.

The Governors were speaking on Wednesday during a weekly Council of Governors (COG) press conference at Machakos , that was attended by the Chairman Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamenga), Alfred Mutua (host), Joseph Ole Lenku ( Kajiado) and Mohamed Kuti of Isiolo County.

“Development partners are funding Counties directly simply because they have confidence in their Governance. You cannot revert health sector to Afya house that is full of corruption and cartels” Alleged Mutua.

Mutua said that the country is in proper and well coordinated health care systems that have been put in place and need not to be distabilized for the sake of personal interests of the few.

The governors  urged the National Government to establish international border protocols to control movement of persons from in and out of the country to curb spread of the Corona virus.

“There is need for an urgent lock-down of our borders with Tanzania because the war we have  with the unseen enemy  is real and we can only win it if we  tighten our belts” Said Ole lenku.

Mr Oparanya emphasized on need for border closure  saying that it has emerged that truck drivers along Malaba border are interacting with locals as they wait in the long traffic to undergo  the mass testing of the Covid-19 which is mandatory for  all cargo operators crossing the borders.

The kakamenga County Chief urged the Country elites to help the Government in sensitizing the rural population on need to employ Covid-19 protective measures in order to be at the pandemic.

Mr Kuti said that  the country is not yet off  from the Global pandemic  saying that the Country should prepare for the worst  in the coming few months.

“ We should expect that the numbers will be high in the months of July- August  and the  disease will be alarming. Let all Kenyans obey the Government directives and stay at home” said Kuti.
