Tanzania raises annual budget to Sh1.6 trillion

The government of Tanzanian on Thursday unveiled its budget for 2020-21, saying it plans to spend 34.88 trillion Tanzanian shillings (Sh1.6 trillion). 

“Out of that amount, 22.1 trillion shillings is allocated for recurrent expenditure and 12.78 trillion shillings for development expenditure,” Finance and Planning Minister Philip Mpango told parliament in the capital Dodoma. 
In his budget speech on estimates of government revenue and expenditure for the new financial year, Mpango said recurrent expenditure included 10.48 trillion shillings (Sh482 billion) for servicing government debt.
He added that 7.76 trillion shillings (Sh357 billion) will be used for paying wages and 3.74 trillion shillings (Sh171 billion) for other charges.

Mpango said the development expenditure of 12.78 trillion shillings (Sh588 billion) comprises 10.04 trillion shillings (Sh462 billion) from internal sources and 2.74 trillion shillings (Sh126 billion) from external ones. 
He added 2.1 trillion shillings (Sh97 billion) has been allocated for its SGR project, 1.6 trillion shillings (Sh74 billion) for a hydropower project at Rufiji River and 823.7 billion shillings (Sh19.5 billion) for railway, water and rural electrification.
