Chaos as senators fight, tear each other’s clothes

Two nominated senators Beatrice Kwamboka and Mary Seneta engaged in a physical fight at the Senate early Wednesday, July 1 during the election of officials of the Senate Committee on Health.

Senator Ledama Olekina was elected the committee’s vice chairperson, a position
that Mary Seneta was eyeing.

Seneta’s team had allegedly forged the signature of
Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga, who wasn’t in the House to cast her vote.
They alleged that Omanga had voted for Seneta for the position of Health
Committee vice chairperson.

Kwamboka, who rooted for Olekina, was enraged by the alleged
forgery of Omanga’s signature, prompting her to go after Seneta. Omanga had
reportedly endorsed the candidature of Olekina.

“You cannot tell me anything! I am Raila Odinga’s staunch
supporter. I will deal with you thoroughly (sic),” said Kwamboka as she surged forward
to grab Seneta by the neck.

After engaging in a physical scuffle that led to the tearing
of each other’s clothes, the senators were separated by other lawmakers.

Olekina had been declared the winner of the Health Committee
vice-chairperson seat, but couldn’t give his vote of thanks as the convention
ended prematurely following the fight between Seneta and Kwamboka.
