Tottenham Hotspur are in danger of missing out on a place in the top four following their 3-1 defeat to Sheffield United on Thursday evening, July 2.

Tottenham came into the match in the hope of carting home all the three points for a chance to increase their hopes of sealing a European football slot.

However, the Jose Mourinho-tutored side was unable to keep up with the hosts who made their goalscoring opportunities count at Bramall Lane.

After a slow start, Sheffield United broke the deadlock at the half-hour mark through Sander Verge who found the back of the net with a low shot.

Harry Kane thought he had equalised a minute later, only for his effort to be disallowed by VAR as the hosts led into the break.

The second half of the match was a slow one for both sides, with neither team showing intent to attack.

But in the 69th minute Lys Mousset doubled the advantage from a couple of yards out before Oli McBurnie putting the game beyond Spurs in the 84th minute

Kane went on to find the back of the net at stoppage time to earn Mourinho’s men a consolation away from home.

The result sent the Blades to seventh on the standings with 47 points as Spurs languish in ninth with 45 points.
