A Kiambu resident has filed a petition to remove Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria from office on the grounds of nepotism, abuse of office and conflict of interest in the award of contracts.
Elijah Gicharu Kimani said he had conducted a self-driven audit on the lawmaker’s Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and discovered that Kuria had irregularly awarded his family members contracts worth KSh 170, 878,413.
According to the petition, Kuria is said to have awarded Finishline Construction firm, in which his brother Aloise Kinyanjui is the director, a contract worth KSh 32,531,540.
“We discovered and strongly believe that the respondent directly influenced the awarding of the contracts to companies owned by his relatives,” the petitioner was quoted by Citizen TV.
Kimani, in his petition also claimed that the legislator’s two other brothers, John Nome Kuria and James Koigwho were directors of Supreme General Traders Ltd and were awarded deals totalling to KSh 5,808,468 in Mutungu Secondary School.
Further, the petitioner said Lujatech Enterprise Ltd, a company whose directors were Charles Regeru Nguru (brother), Jane Muthoni Regeru (Sister-in-Law), Lucy Wambui Regeru (niece) and Teresia Mwihaki Regeru (niece) of the Tanga Tanga legislator had been awarded tenders worth Ksh.10,267,955 in two schools.
The Kiambu resident also said the lawmakers’ sister Jane Wambui Kuria had received a contract worth KSH 9,814,240 in two schools through her company Kiki Holdings Ltd.
It was under these grounds that the petitioner said the William Ruto ally was unfit to hold a public office.
Kimani said he had forwarded the petition to the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission for further probing.
