Ford Kenya Secretary General and Minority Deputy Whip in the National Assembly Hon.Maj(Rtd).Dr.David Eseli Simiyu seems to have outsmarted the Bungoma Senator Hon.Moses Wetangula in the fight over the control of Ford Kenya Party.
While Wetangula was determined to show the whole world that he was on top of the game, close analysis of the wrangles in the lion party depicts Dr.Eseli as organised and poised for a clear victory.
In a NEC meeting held at Radisson Blue Hotel in Nairobi,Moses Wetangula was suspended as the Ford Kenya Party Leader and in his position,Kanduyi MP Hon.Wafula Wamunyinyi was put on interim basis. However,Wetangula dismissed the changes and instead replaced Dr.Eseli with Kiminini MP Dr.Chris Wamalwa as the Secretary General.
Using the military style,Dr.Eseli ensured that he had gotten the really NEC members of the party on his side.He used his position as the Secretary General to lobby for the removal of Moses Wetangula as the party leader.
NEC members from Siaya,Homa Bay,Migori,Kisii,Busia and Nairobi counties were targeted in the mobilisation drive.Because Wetangula was being accused of having a soft spot for Dr.William Ruto,it was a common knowledge that NEC members from the Nyanza Counties would have ratified his ouster. The strategy became successful.
In an otherwise show of lack of strategy,Wetangula hurriedly convened a meeting of non-NEC members and purported to replace Dr.Eseli Simiyu as the party SG.
Earlier today,Dr.Eseli and Hon.Wamunyinyi took the party changes to the office of the Registrar of Political Parties. The changes were accompanied with submissions from NEC members, signatures and the minutes of the NEC meeting that came up with the changes.
Dr.Eseli ensured that every document bears an official letter head and stamp of the party. He also ensured that all the names and signatures are those of genuine NEC members. In a strategy to lure the Registrar to confirm the changes,Dr.Eseli made it known that the new leaders had been chosen on interim basis.
The strategy was also to ensure that the party constitution was being followed to the letter.Only through the NDC that the party can make permanent changes to its leadership.
Wetangula’s side however appeared uninformed and a bit confused.First,in a letter to Registrar of Political Parties,a signature of unknown Acting Secretary General was appearing. With much interrogations,it came out that Hon.Chris Wamalwa was the one who had signed the documents.
It should be known that Chris Wamalwa had been proposed as Dr.Eseli’s replacement but no legal organ of the party or Kenya had confirmed his selection.
Therefore,he has not been mandated to perform any duties of the Secretary General of the Party.Though Wetangula has been appearing in public with a sizeable number of leaders,it has been confirmed that most of them are not NEC or Ford Kenya members.
From the onset,Senator Wetangula has been misscoring.According to political party experts,Wetangula should have wrote a protest letter to the Registrar of Political Parties instead of a letter seeking to effect changes in the party.
Through the protest letter,Wetangula could have achieved to block the changes and a temporary reinstatement. This could have given him the opportunity to mount a serious case against the changes through a tribunal and a court of law.Making parallel changes that appear illegal has given Dr.Eseli a huge victory.
