There are conflicting reports on the whereabouts of ODM leader Raila Odinga who has been out of the country for two weeks. Whereas there are those who say the former premier is expected back home on Wednesday, there are reports the AU Envoy might have arrived secretly last night from Dubai.
“He might not come back today (Sunday) as reported but any day next week. The most important thing is his recovery which is going on well. Baba would have been welcomed by his supporters, but I don’t think that will be the case. To me the important thing is that the surgery went on well and he is recovering well at least by the reports that we have heard far seen,” ODM Chair John Mbadi said on Sunday.
Multiple accounts had previously emerged on what the AU special envoy for infrastructure is admitted in hospital for as his close relatives, including brother Oburu Oginga and his wife Ida Odinga gave conflicting accounts.Dr Oburu Oginga stated the former prime minister left the country and underwent a successful back surgery, his wife, Ida, however, discounted the account sparkling speculations on what could be ailing the former Prime Minister.
“Jakom (Raila) is out of the country for a minor surgical operation on his back. It is not a serious health issue, but just a minor one. So, he’s okay,” Dr Oginga said last week.In an interesting twist, Ida refuted the earlier claims, including speculations that the ODM party leader is in a critical condition.
”He is in the United Arab Emirates – Dubai based International Hospital run by Germans. He has been successfully treated of a mild nerve disorder affecting one leg and not what has been alleged.”
“Treat such rumours with utmost contempt and abhorrence. It’s not right to speculate on someone’s health,”Ida said.
