Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga landed into the country on Sunday and hit the ground running literally with a series of engagements.

Odinga held a closed-door meeting at his Karen home with close confidants, among them John Mbadi, James Orengo, Edwin Sifuna and some government officials at his Karen home on Monday.

The ODM party leader is expected to join President Uhuru Kenyatta on a live session to receive the Building Bridges initiative, paving way for the next phase that will lead to a referendum in push for constitutional amendments.

Mbadi confirmed that the ODM party leader will continue to operate from his Karen home for two weeks as he recovers.

“He is strong. You don’t want to put Raila in a situation where he goes back to the office and it is going to be crowded,” said Mbadi.

His low-key arrival into the country caught many by surprise as Junet had earlier on told the public that the ODM leader would jet back on Wednesday this week.

On hand to receive him when he jetted back aboard a private jet was his wife, Ida, daughter Rosemary, brother Dr. Oburu Oginga, ODM chairman John Mbadi and Siaya Senator James Orengo.

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho together with Suna East MP Junet Mohamed jetted out to Dubai last week on Thursday aboard a private jet to bring the opposition chief home.

Multiple sources confirmed that the AU special envoy for infrastructure will keep away from the public while observing social distancing rules.

“Baba is in Nairobi where he is expected to spend the coming days. State House will announce the next move on the BBI activities by the principals. But he will take time to rest because political gatherings are banned but will hold virtual meetings with other leaders in Kenya and Africa,” said one MP.
