Tough Times Looms as President Kenyatta Urged to Re-introduce Long Curfew Hours, Lockdowns

Hard times looms as President Uhuru Kenyatta has been urged to re-introduce long curfew hours and lockdown to curb the spread of covid-19 in the country.

The Agha Khan University Vice Provost Dr. Alex Awiti said that the President’s latest move to remove cessation of movement in and out Nairobi, Mombasa, and Mandera has fueled the spread of coronavirus cases by More than 200%.

According to Dr. Alex the President’s move was so untimely as the COVID-19 pandemic was taken for granted and currently people are traveling in and out of Nairobi which is the current hotspot of the virus.

Dr. Alex further argued that it will be hectic to trace contacts and isolation, as the number of the novel cases has already surged by 206 percent following the Head of State’s move to ease some measures such as reducing the dusk to dawn curfew hours introduced before.

The Provost went ahead to advise the President to reconsider re-introducing the lockdown measures such as movements restrictions especially in counties that seem to be the hotspot of the deadly virus that has sent the entire globe into panic.

“As positive cases surge, President Kenyatta should re-introduce lockdown measures close bars, restrict travel and longer curfew hours, ” Dr. Alex Awiti stated.
