Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, the Eldoret hospital Billing Officer, Eunice Njuguna, said the deceased had been admitted at the facility on June 13, 2020, and died on July 17, leaving a bill of Ksh 864,299.
The family has so far managed to raise KSh 105,000.
The family is now appealing for help from well-wishers to enable them to clear the remaining hospital bill so that they can be allowed to take their son’s body.
Rose Atieno, wife to the deceased who was a peasant farmer said her husband died when they had depleted their resources which were spent on his medication.
The widow further said that her husband had left her with young children and she that she did not have a source of income.
“I have been doing a labourer’s job so that I can at least get money to buy food for my children since I’m now the breadwinner in my family,” she said
While on his part, Oswago said the efforts of his family to raise funds had not been successful.
“My son’s body is being detained in Eldoret because of the huge hospital bill. We have tried to raise the money to no avail,” said the father.
“We shall be grateful to any well-wisher or leaders willing to help us bring the body home so that he can be buried in his home,” he added.
