Being a working mum can be demanding. You have to somehow balance out your work with your colleagues as well as manage your house. Even if you engage a caregiver, you’re the primary house manager. Since cooking is essential, here are some of the ways to hack cooking and make your life easier.

Get rid of smelly hands

You’re probably always cutting some ingredients that are very punchy in their smell. To get rid of the smell of onions, garlic, Wasabi, or fish on your hands, rub a stainless steel spoon over them when running under the tap.

This will ensure you don’t make everything to smell as pungent as your hands.

Use of scissors

Use scissors to chop up your meat. Incredibly, this hack works perfectly to save you time. Many at times you struggle using knives, especially to get the right bite size pieces.

Say goodbye to that stress and use a kitchen scissors, whether the meat is raw or cooked.

Don’t let it boil over

To avoid your food, especially stews, soups or porridge from boiling over and messing up the gas stoves, place a wooden spoon on top of a pan to stop it from boiling over.

Emergency lemons

There’s more you can do with lemons when life throws some your way after purchasing them. Slice them up together with limes, pop in a freezer bag and transfer to the freezer.

This ensures that your lemons don’t dry out, and they can have several uses.

Prepare breakfast the night before

As a working mum, your mornings tend to be the busiest. With preparation of people for work or school. If you make breakfast the night before, it can really take the pressure off your morning rush.

For instance, get to create your children lunch boxes before, prepare pancake mixes or fruit sets earlier and set the table.

All this is quite relieving especially since people can always warm their breakfast instead of having you cook it fresh which is time consuming.

Cook food in batches

What do you do when you are home? If it’s the weekend or your off day, spend a couple of hours doing batch cooking.

Do this and pack them in Tupperware plastic then fill up the freezer and then you’ll have your meals sorted for the week.

It saves so much time during the week and it means the family have healthy meals that are quick to cook.
