KQ resumes domestic passenger flights after Uhuru’s COVID-19 directive

Kenya Airways has announced resumption of its domestic flights beginning Sunday, May 2.

This comes hours after President Uhuru Kenyatta lifted cessation of movement into and out of five counties which have been a no-go zone area since March 27 in a bid to curb COVID-19’s surge. The counties which were under the lockdown include Nairobi, Machakos, Kiambu, Kajiado and Nakuru.

In a statement, the airline says it will fly two times daily to Mombasa and one time daily to Kisumu before increasing the frequencies.

“Kenya Airways (KQ) will resume its domestic flights on Sunday 02 May 2021, following the lifting of the restrictions of movements in and out of Nairobi as directed by H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta,” the statement read in part.

It went ahead to assert that all passengers will be required to adhere to the Ministry of Health’s protocols as they travel across the country.

“KQ continues to work closely with the Government of Kenya
through the Ministry of Health and Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) to enforce
safety measures and protocols. The airline’s utmost priority remains the health
and safety of the passengers, crew and staff.

“All passengers and airport users are still required to strictly observe the safety measures in place to ensure the safety of airport users,” it added.
