The move is a a big blow to Kutima who had high hopes of a strong home base hailing from the vote-rich subcounty with more than 90,000 registered voters. Led by former Kakamega county leader of minority and Chekalini ward MCA Titus Kwoma, the leaders asked Shimaka to set up industries in the area that will create employment opportunities to the youth and steer economic standards to higher levels. Apart from Shimaka and Kutima, other candidates who have declared interest are Lugari MP Ayub Savula, Senator Cleophas Malala, former senator Bonnie Khalwale and Fernandez Barasa.
