Police have arrested five men suspected to have conspired to break into Prime Bank’s OTC branch in downtown Nairobi.

Charles Mulo, Fredrick Muderwa, Jesse Muriuki, Gabriel Mungai, and Reuben Njuka were seized on Friday morning, 2nd July, by officers from the DCI and Kamukunji Police Station, as they were reportedly about to break into the bank in Angle House on Ukwala Lane.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the five had booked into guest rooms in a building, which shares a wall with the bank.

They had planned to drill their way into the bank at night. However, detectives got wind of the plan and spoilt their party! They stormed into the building, forcing the thugs to scamper, taking cover in the ceiling,” the DCI said in a statement.

The detectives brought the ceiling down, exposing the five who clung onto the roof trusses for dear life.

“With the iron sheets above them and the armed sleuths waiting to pounce on them on the ground, the miscreants were left with no option, other than to surrender to our officers,” added the DCI.

The officers managed to recover three hacksaws, one knotted twisted rope, one metal driller, five metal bars, one pair of metal cutter scissors, and one suitcase.

The suspects are being held Kamukunji Police Station.
