A day after President Uhuru Kenyatta rescinded his decision to cancel a planned tour of the Ukambani region, a new squabble has emerged.
Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has accused Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka of not being development-conscious about the Lower Eastern region.
Taking to his social media platforms, Kibwana questioned why the former Vice-President had visited the site where Thwake Dam project is being built.
Although it a national government project, the county boss said it was hypocritical of the Wiper boss to try and portray himself as the man behind it.
He claimed that it was Kalonzo’s first time to set foot in Makueni to inspect the project and yet it has been going on for months.
“For the first time @KalonzoOfficial has visited Thwake Dam ahead of the President’s Ukambani tour @StateHouseKenya Today he said he is John the Baptist.
“He is yet to visit any county project since his Wiper juniors say there is nothing in the counties. We hope to see change,” he said.
President Kenyatta was to start his two-day visit in the region yesterday, but he changed his mind at the last minute.
Sources revealed that a supremacy battle pitting Kalonzo against the three governors from the area – Kibwana, Alfred Mutua (Machakos), and Charity Ngilu (Kitui) had caused the cancelation.
The governors were reportedly not happy after suspecting that Kalonzo wanted to take credit for the President’s visit.
They vowed not to allow the Wiper chief to capitalise on the trip for his political advantage.
