Safaricom PLC has been accused once again of stealing a proposal without crediting nor paying the idea owners.
According to a Twitter post shared by a concerned Techie, he shared an idea with Safaricom a year ago and the company said they don’t take up such suggestions.
Hi Kiprono Safaricom only accepts proposals that we have solicited. In terms of supporting innovation, we partner with different innovators who already have existing solutions in the market.^TM

However, the Peter Ndegwa led firm has gone ahead and implemented the same idea they rejected a year ago.
About a year ago i shared this idea with Safaricom on how one client can share data bundles with others no matter the distance, for example, like i can hotspot someone in Mombasa while i am in Kisumu through Safaricom. Fast forward 2021, they adopted the idea🤷🏾♂️ pic.twitter.com/m1CdzCefgK
In this case, Safaricom is telling creative Kenyans to middle finger their minds as the firm gains millions from their ideas.
Safaricom has over the time petitioned before the court that you can’t patent an idea. An invention is something else. Stealing ideas is allowed even though in some instances, not ethical.
Here are other cases where Safaricom has been caught red-handed launching stolen ideas
This is not only uncouth but also unethical coming from a company that boasts of being a King of Telco in the EAC community. Very shameful to say the least.
