Kenyan sprinter Mark Otieno has been provisionally withdrawn from the Tokyo Olympics Games after failing a drugs test.

According to International Testing Agency, Otieno tested positive for a banned substance.

This means that he will not participate in the men’s 100m heats this afternoon.

He was among the only two athletes, who had been selected to represent Kenya in the race.

Otieno has denied the doping claims and insisted that he had not taken anabolic androgenic steroids. He has appealed and a re-analysis of B sample will be carried out.

Team Kenya Chef de mission Waithaka Kioni said it was too early to speculate, stating that the second test would reveal the truth.

“We have received communication from the International Testing Agency regarding our sprinter, who has had an adverse analytical finding on his urine sample that he provided on July 28. For now, he remains provisionally suspended from participating in the race.

“The sprinter is aware of this communication and is in receipt of a letter from the ITA. He has since denied any knowledge of the violation and requested a re-analysis of his B sample. For now, he remains innocent until we receive the results of the B sample,” Kioni said.
