The atmosphere looked gloomy and everywhere there were no smiles as the two slain Embu brothers were interred at their family home in Kithangari village in Kianjakoma.
The bereaved family, friends, classmates of Benson Njiru and Emmanuel Mutura, and leaders gathered at Kianjakoma primary school where the funeral service was conducted.
The mother of the boys collapsed shortly after their caskets arrived for the ceremony. She was, however, made stable.
Among the leaders who attended the sendoff were National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, MPs Moses Kuria (Gatundu), Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Muriuki Njagagua (Mbeere North), and Cecily Mbarire (nominated).
The politicians called out the police for failing to carry out expeditious investigations.
Muturi said it was unfortunate that the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) had not concluded investigations at the time the young men were being laid to rest yet Parliament has allocated it enough funds.
“They promised to table results in of the probe in a week. That period has elapsed and they have nothing to show of their said efforts,” he said.
The former Siakago MP added that the autopsy had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the brothers were and did not jump out of a moving police vehicle as authorities alleged. According to the post-mortem, the two died as a result of blunt force trauma.
Gachagua asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene and ensure the family gets justice.
“Unfortunately, the perpetrators are known and no action has been taken,” he said.
Interior Cabinet Secretary met the family on Wednesday this week, but the leaders said that was not enough.
Njiru and Mutura were buried in one grave. The family said it symbolised the love they had for each other.
