Covid-19 Cases Rise to 220,727 After 789 Test Positive

The number of Covid-19 infections countrywide has risen to 220,727 after 789 people tested positive in the last 24 hours.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 16th August, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new cases were detected from 5,498 samples, bringing to 2,253,457, the cumulative number of samples tested. The country’s positivity rate stands at 14.4 per cent.

From the new cases, 758 are Kenyans while 31 are foreigners, with 431 being males and 358 females. The youngest is a four-month-old infant and the oldest is 98.

A total of 1,550 patients have recovered from the disease; 1,426 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program and 124 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 203,922.

Some 21 more patients succumbed to the virus, raising the number of deaths to 4,340.

There are 1,971 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 9,672 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

 Some 134 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 53 of whom are on ventilatory support, 74 on supplemental oxygen and seven patients are under observation.

Another 690 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 658 of them in general wards and 32 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
