Two officers from the Ministry of Interior and National Coordination have lost their job after being sacked for being drunk during working hours.
Speaking during a security meeting in Museum Hall in Kitale Town Trans Nzoia County commissioner Sam Ojwangsaid that there has been an increase in alcohol usage among employees of the national government.
Commissioner Ojwang said a ten-day crackdown targeting both the employees and civilians has been launched to curb the vice.
“Government offices are not rehab centres for people to nurse their hangovers after being drunk. We are going to search for such officers and interdict them to clean up the civil service,” he said
He further noted that they were working with the public to identify such officers whom he termed as wastage in productivity.
“We
cannot sit down and watch as government officials are seen drunk during working
hours, some as early as 10:00 am in the morning. We are working with the public
to identify them and they will face a sack as there is no other way out of it.”
Under
the banner “Operation Fagia Maliza Pombe Haramu Bangi Na Lotto” the county boss
has further added that they are targeting illicit brew sellers who have been
selling to the officers and public.
“There
are areas that have declared themselves as no-go zones in terms of alcohol
selling, saying they are untouchable, including Folkland. We are coming to you
and we will not spare anybody.”
He
further said that they will use full force to flush out gangs that were using
the Chang’aa dens as their hideouts.
