The Ministry of Health has announced 1,506 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, raising the national tally to 224,400.
The cases are from the 9,840 samples tested, bringing to 2,278,763 the cumulative number of tests. The country’s Covid-19 positivity rate is now at 15.3 per cent.
In a statement issued in Nairobi, on Wednesday, 18th August, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that from the new cases, 1,473 are Kenyans while 33 are foreigners, with 711 being males and 795 females. The youngest is a five-month-old child, while the oldest is 102.
Some 1,538 patients have recovered from the disease, 1,352 are from the home-based isolation and care programme, while 186 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 207,450.
The Covid-19 death toll rose to 4,378 after 24 more patients succumbed.
There are 2,054 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities across the country while another 8,408 are on Home Based Isolation and Care.
At the same time, 161 patients are in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 86 are on ventilatory support, and 75 on supplemental oxygen. No patient is on observation.
Another 783 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 723 of them being admitted in the general wards. 60 patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
The new cases were spread in counties as follows; Nairobi 512, Kiambu 162, Nakuru 93, Mombasa 89, Nyandarua 88, Makueni 68, Machakos 64, Murang’a 47, Embu 45, Kajiado and Uasin Gishu 41 cases each, Kirinyaga 32, Marsabit 25, Turkana, Garissa and Busia 17 cases each, Nandi 15, Baringo 13, Meru 12, Bungoma and Nyeri 10 cases each, Isiolo and Kilifi eight cases each, Lamu seven, Kisii, Kisumu and Narok six cases each, Kitui, Tana River and Migori five cases each, Kwale dour, Elgeyo Marakwet, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Mandera, Tharaka Nithi, Wajir, Samburu and Siaya three cases each while Kericho and Taita Taveta had two cases each.
