Murang’a police officer arrested for grabbing Ksh1,100 from Tuk Tuk driver’s hand, pocket

A police officer is being held at Kandara Police Station in Murang’a County for allegedly robbing a Tuk Tuk driver Ksh1,100.

A report by the DCI
indicates that the officer in question flagged down a Piaggio Tuk Tuk drive, with
registration number KTWA 546X, and reportedly demanded Ksh2,000 from him for unknown
reasons.

When the driver refused to comply, the officer allegedly snatched Ksh300 the driver was holding on his hand and thereafter forced his way into his pocket and took Ksh800.

“The distraught Tuk Tuk
driver raised alarm and Police Officers from Kabati Police Station led by the
OCS, rushed to the scene of the incident,” a DCI report indicates.

The officer was arrested
and put in custody pending investigations into the matter.

The incident came barely
a day after four police officers were arrested for robbing a resident at night.

Constables Thomas Agumba Okuku, Lawrence Mbau, James Munyoki Mulei and Dan Keya all of the Ruiru police station were arrested following an investigation into reports that forced a man to reveal his Mpesa PIN and forcefully transferred money from his account.

Investigations revealed
that the officers arrested a man on the night of August 12 for violating curfew
orders.

They took his phone and forced him to reveal his Mpesa PIN before they transferred Sh1,030 to a certain number registered under the name of Martin Ndichu Kamau. The victim narrated his ordeal on Facebook and even appealed to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi and his PS Karanja Kibicho to intervene.
