The Ministry of Health has announced 501 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, raising the national tally to 242,284.
The cases were from the 6,879 samples tested. This brings to 2,436,216 the cumulative number of samples tested. The country’s positivity rate now stands at 7.3 per cent.
In a statement issued on Thursday, 9th September, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that 487 of the new cases are Kenyans and 14 are foreigners.
The latest infections include 219 males and 282 females, while the youngest is a two-month-old infant and the oldest is 102.
The national death toll rose to 4,864, after 34 more patients succumbed to the virus.
Health CS Kagwe said 312 patients had recovered, 122 from home-based isolation and care programme while 190 were from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 230,407.
There are 1,752 patients admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,864 patients are in home-based isolation and care programme.
Some 163 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 117 of whom are on ventilatory support, 40 on supplemental oxygen while six patients are under observation.
Another 671 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 617 of them in general wards and 54 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
The cases are spread in counties as follows: Nairobi 137 Uasin Gishu 55, Nakuru 38, Kiambu 26, Murang’a 25, Kitui 24, Kajiado 18, Marsabit 15, Baringo, Garissa, Nyamira and Machakos 12 cases each, Kericho and Isiolo 11 cases each, Trans Nzoia and Laikipia nine cases each, Vihiga eight, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kwale and Narok six cases each, Meru and Tana River five cases each, Tharaka Nithi four, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Mombasa and Elgeyo Marakwet three cases each, Kilifi, Kisii, Kisumu, Lamu, Embu, West Pokot, Nandi and Bomet two cases each while Busia had one case.
