Nyeri, Kenya, Sept 18 – Nyeri residents wishing to travel home on weekends will only take 25 minutes to land in Nyeri after a flight training school launched weekend flights that will cost Sh 6,000 for a one-way trip.

Flight Training Centre (FTC) Managing Director captain Godwin Wachira said that the flights will depart Nairobi’s Wilson Airport on Friday and Sunday afternoons to Nyaribo airstrip in Nyeri.

He said the school will thereafter increase frequencies on demand of more passengers.

“Initially, we will be bringing in people to Nyeri on Friday and pick them on Sunday afternoon, we will thereafter adjust them to have daily flights at an interval of one hour,” he said.

Wachira said the school took the bold step to launch the flights after realizing that the destination has huge potential for growth.

“As a school. we have realized that many people wishing to travel to Nyeri take a whooping three hours by road so we have shortened this and are only charging partly 6000 shillings,” said Wachira.

Tour operators who spoke to Capital FM, said that the flights will help in ensuring that their visitors arrive on time in Nyeri town which boasts of several hotels.

Wachira confirmed that the flight school has also partnered with Nyeri town hoteliers to market the flights to their visitors.
