634 Recover as Covid-19 Cases Jump to 246,296

The Ministry of Health on Saturday, 18th September, confirmed 515 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours. This brings the country’s caseload to 246,296.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement that the cases were detected from 7,981 samples tested, raising the total to 2,494,312. The positivity rate is at 6.5 per cent.

From the cases, 488 are Kenyans while 27 are foreigners with 279 being males and 236 females. The youngest is a four-month-old child while the oldest is 102.

Kagwe confirmed that 634 patients have recovered from the disease, 540 are from the home-Based Isolation and Care, while 55 are from various health facilities. This has increased to 236,803, the total number of recoveries.

The Covid-19 death toll rose to 4,980 after 15 more patients succumbed to the disease.

There are 1,444 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 3,259 patients are under the home-based isolation and care programme.

Some 114 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 83 of whom are on ventilatory support, 25 on supplemental oxygen and six patients are under observation.

Another 513 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 474 of them in general wards and 39 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
