The Covid-19 death toll has risen to 5,109 in the country after seven more patients succumbed to the virus, the Ministry of Health has announced.
In a statement issued on Monday, 27th September, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe also reported 54 new infections from the 2,501samples tested, raising the caseload to 248,515.
This brings to 2,537,382, the cumulative number of samples tested so far. The country’s positivity rate stands at 2.2 per cent.
From the new cases, 52 are Kenyans while two are foreigners, with 24 being males and 30 females. The youngest is a two-year-old baby, while the oldest is 93.
Kagwe said 437 patients had recovered from the virus, 314 from the Home-Based and Isolation Care programme while 123 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 240,672.
Currently, 1,126 patients are admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 2,586 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme.
Some 73 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 49 of whom are on ventilatory support and 24 on supplemental oxygen. No patient is under observation.
Another 368 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 353 of them in general wards and 15 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
The new cases are distributed in counties as follows: Nairobi 22, Machakos seven, Murang’a, Nakuru four cases, Uasin Gishu three, Kajiado and Nyeri two cases each, Wajir, Baringo, Kakamega, Kiambu, Nandi, Kirinyaga, Kisii, Meru, Mombasa and Trans Nzoia one case each.
