Politicians Moses Kuria and Cate Waruguru have treated their supporters to a rare online spectacle, washing their dirty linen in public.
Kuria, the Gatundu South MP, took to his Facebook page to share a private WhatsApp chat between him and the Laikipia Woman Representative.
According to the short conversation, Waruguru sent a random message containing a bad prayer for her colleague in the National Assembly.
“You will know no peace…. Here on earth,” she reportedly wrote.
The Gatundu South lawmaker replied: “Amen.”
His caption to the screenshot was: “Thank you Hon Catherine Waruguru. May God not hear your prayers. But I will pray for you my condition notwithstanding.”
Kuria is admitted to Karen Hospital in Nairobi after undergoing minor leg surgery.
In a rejoinder, Waruguru accused Kuria of using his sickness to seek public sympathy.
She even went ahead to claim that he deliberately injured his leg.
“Hon Moses Kuria now I know the hospital bed has humbled you to prayers and not insults. I’m sorry you deep-fried your feet and burnt them. Whoever bought that warmer without proper doctor’s prescription will tell us why your nerves failed you,” she wrote.
She also tried to explain where their beef was coming from.
“When you insult us, women with our infant children and dead parents, we go through pain because we are human beings. Enjoy the sympathy for now. You carry the trophy for the most insensitive leader. Quick recovery in your second surgery/grafting,” she concluded.
Reactions
This is how Kenyans have reacted to the public spat, with a majority of them accusing Waruguru of being insensitive.
Philemon Bett: “It’s time for politicians to fight each other. We Kenyans have suffered a lot.”
Phylysis Kerry: “So shameful of Waruguru. Never insult someone with their illness.”
Wachira Miano: “Waruguru you are the most insensitive and inhuman woman I have come across. Thank God you have less than one year to go home.”
Gideon Kipkoech: “This is uncalled for, Waruguru. No one chooses to be in a hospital bed. Watch what you say because the tables can be turned.”
Milcah Wambui: “If these are the people we call leaders then we have a big problem as a country.”
